Book Review: Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Posted on 06:00 by Unknown
I finally finished this book! My goodness, It took me over a month to finish it. I was so busy with school and blog tour review books that I've neglected Bloodlines. Alas, I've finished it and enjoyed it, of course!

Bloodlines is a spin-off series to the Vampire Academy. This one focuses on the Alchemists in which Sydney Sage is the main character.

My Review
Sydney was reprimanded for helping out Rose in the Vampire Academy series. The Alchemists made sure that the world of vampires and humans stayed separate. They also thought that vampires were unnatural and should be avoided at all times.

I didn't know that Sydney actually feared the vampires until I read this book. There were moments where she really would cower, especially when magic was involved. It's like the Alchemists instilled a phobia in her when it came to anything magical or supernatural.

And then there was Adrian. *Swoon* He was just adorable and I couldn't help loving him. He was a trouble maker most of the time but deep down, he just wanted for someone to believe in him and trust that he could amount to something. Sydney was that person. I also loved how Adrian could be witty and serious at the same time. When he used a different voice with Jill when she wouldn't stop playing with the water at the mini golf course, I just about melted. His concern for Sage was just amazing. I really think they need to break the barriers and just get together already.

Anyway, Sydney's mission was to protect Lissa's sister Jill, and Eddie was her guardian. All of them had a cover that they were all siblings, including Adrian. As with Vampire Academy, I loved Richelle Mead's writing when it comes to the action scenes. It still amazed me to read when dhampir fought Strigoi. There were SO many mysteries in this book. Some of them I figured out early on, and some of them I simply wasn't surprised about. All the little hints were there. All the other characters simply chose to ignore them.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. As with Vampire Academy, I think this book started off slow but when it picked up, it sure got very interesting. I am looking forward to Golden Lily! The ending of Bloodlines seriously made me want to just get the second book already. Poor Adrian, but yey for the newcomer!

Check out the quotes/scenes/excerpts I enjoyed!

Sydney: I like Latin. It's fun.
Eddie: I can't believe you think WE'RE the strange ones.
S: "Am I interrupting your social calendar?" I made a big show of glancing around the empty room. "I don't want to keep you from the mob of fans beating down your door."
A: "Hey, a guy can hope. I mean, it's not impossible that a car full of scantily clad sorority girls might break down outside and need my help."
S: "That's true. Maybe I can put a sign out front that says, 'ATTENTION ALL GIRLS: FREE HELP HERE."
A: "ATTENTION ALL HOT GIRLS," he corrected, straightening up.
S: "Right. That's an important distinction."
A: "Speaking of hot, I like that uniform."
A: "These hands don't do manual labor."
A: "Everything's about my personal entertainment. The world is my stage. Keep it up--you're becoming a star performer in the show."
Keith was just bringing the glass to his lips when Adrian said, "Mmm. O positive, my favorite."
Keith sprayed out the wine he'd just drunk and promptly started coughing. I was relieved that none got on me. Jill burst into giggles, and Clarence stared at his glass wonderingly.
"Is it? I thought it was cabernet sauvignon."
"So it is," said Adrian, straight-faced. "My mistake."
S: "I don't suppose that she just gave you the job based on looks alone?"
A: "Why Sage, you sweet talker."
S: "That's not what I meant! What happened?"
A: "I told the truth."
S: "Adrian!"
A: "I'm serious. She asked me what my greatest strength was. I said getting along with people."
S: "That's not bad."
A: "Then she asked what my greatest weakness was. And I said 'Where should I start?'"
S: "Adrian!"
A: "Stop saying my name like that. I told her the truth. By the time I was on the fourth one, she told me I could go."
A: "When I got in, they said the manager was on the phone and would be a few minutes. So, I sat down and ordered a drink."
S: "What did you order?"
A: "A martini."
S: "A martini. You ordered a martini before a job interview."
A: "Sage, why'd you pick me to be your partner in crime in this?"
S: "Process of elimination, I guess. Jill's supposed to be kept out of trouble. Eddie'd be a good asset, but he needed to go back with her and Lee. Besides, I already knew you didn't have any moral qualms about breaking and entering."
A: "That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me."
S: " How did you even get here?"
A: "Same way I get around everywhere, Sage. The bus."
S: "Why?"
A: "Because I don't have a car."
A: "Do you smell that?"
S: "I smell the paint, and...wait...is that pine?"
A: "Damn straight. Pine-scented cleaner. As in, I CLEANED." He gestured to the kitchen dramatically. "With these hands, these hands that don't do manual labor."
S: "What did you use it on? The cupboards?"
A: "The cupboards are fine. I cleaned the floor and the counter. I even got down on my knees."
