By Mary Martinez

Blurb:
After two years undercover as an FBI agent to infiltrate a crime organization and discover the identity of a hit man, Tyler Beckett’s cover is blown. Tyler’s new assignment is to protect the only witness who can identify the mysterious killer. If only he didn’t find her so attractive. Each day it becomes harder to keep his objective, especially since he knows the interest is mutual.

Keira Cavanaugh is the only witness to a hit ordered by a crime boss.  The safe house is compromised and the same hit man shoots Tyler. Fearing Tyler is dead, Keira plans revenge on the crime organization. She must fake her own suicide in order to survive.
When Tyler discovers what Keira plans, he realizes he must stop her before he loses her for good.

Review

Wow, this book was AMAZING. I chose to participate in this tour because I love stories with undercover characters. This book did not disappoint at all!

Cover: I'm not in love with the cover. If it was based on the cover alone, I wouldn't have picked to read this book.

Technical: The book was well-written with little to no errors.

My review:
Wow, where do I start? Keira was probably the unluckiest woman on earth when she witnessed a murder and was able to identify the killer. The killer was known to be very good at hiding his tracks and have gotten away with his crimes for a long time, until Keira accidentally witnessed his latest activity.

Keira reported the incident to the police. The case escalated all the way to the FBI and they decided to put her in a witness protection program. This is where Tyler comes in.

Tyler had some sort of relation to the victim so he felt that he needed to protect the witness. First, he was undercover trying to find intel on the enemy. Little did he know that he was being set up. Long story short, he ended up wounded in a hospital. Despite his injuries, he insisted that he wanted to be the one to take care of the witness. With little reasoning, he got what he wanted.

One thing I didn't think was realistic about this book was that Tyler and Keira fell in love with each other in a matter of two days. That never happens in real life, does it? But I'm not complaining much. I enjoyed their "activities" together and definitely didn't mind that they were head over heels in love with each other. The same reasoning also contributed to Keira being comfortable enough in her situation whereas other women would probably have been complaining and miserable.

As with all interesting undercover stories, there was a mole inside the FBI. Long story short, the enemy found Tyler and Keira's hideout. They were lucky the first time and got away safely. The second time was not so lucky. Keira thought Tyler was dead so she tried to fake her death as well to start a new life.

Another unrealistic moment was when the new Keira (named Karla) called Tyler's parents and Tyler answered the phone. Of course they were very happy until Tyler found out Keira was hired by the enemy and she was plotting revenge.

As with romance stories, the bad guys were caught and put behind bars, and the two lovers reunite and live happily ever after. At least, I hope they did. :)

Check out scenes/excerpts I loved from the book!
Tyler: "Look we need to set some ground rules if this is going to work."

Keira: "Rules?"

Before he could stop himself, he leaned over intending to capture the sweetness with his own mouth. Just before contact, her head jerked and slammed against the side window. That brought him to his senses. He straightened and watched as she rubbed her head.

Keira: "What are you doing? Is kissing part of the rules? If you think I'm going to sleep with you at this safe house, because you think I'm so grateful, you'd better have another think about it."

Tyler: "Look I'm sorry."

"You got a boyfriend?"

Keira: "None of your business."

Tyler: "No, it's not, but you won't be able to contact him if you do. You'll be in protective custody, which means no contact with anyone but me."

"Look I really am sorry, I was out of line. I'm not quite sure how to say this without coming off like the biggest jerk. But since I first caught a glimpse of you... I find you attractive. I'm here to protect you, and I can't be distracted. Yet I was. So you'll just have to guard yourself."

Keira: "Guard myself? That's rich. Now I have to worry about being raped too?"

Tyler: "Rape you? I try to steal a kiss and tell you I find you attractive and you accuse me of rape?"

Keira: "You said I had to protect myself from you."

Tyler: "I meant try not to tempt me."

Keira: "I haven't been doing anything of the kind."

Tyler: "I need a minute."
Keira: "Thank you."
Tyler: "For what?"
Keira: "For not arguing with me. Agreeing we're a team. You have no idea what that means to me."
Tyler: "Keira, it means I love you."
