Book Review: ReVamped by Ada Adams

Posted on 03:00 by Unknown
A simple mission turned deadly.

Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

I had trouble getting into this book.

There wasn't enough for me to be hooked. I had high expectations because the cover was beautiful and there were many raves about the book. I was so excited when I received a copy.

One of the things that caught my attention were the product and company names. I found them unoriginal - "Blood Cola", "Blood Vodka", "Next Vamp Idol", "Transylvania Shore", etc...

Dawn was a 19-year-old Born vampire who wanted to go on a mission after being in training for so long. When she finally got her first mission from her father, she was ecstatic. She was to train four vampires to protect the town they resided in. They were pretty much pathetic vampires. There was a love triangle in the story. Human vs. Vampire. We all know, despite Dawn being a vampire, she would choose the vampire because, well, he's hotter and stronger.

Sebastian was the mysterious vampire. In the climax of the book, Sebastian shed the mystery surrounding himself. Dawn also found something very vital to her identity. I definitely didn't expect that from the story. I found it hard to sympathize with Dawn, though. I tried to understand how she felt when she found out the secret about herself, but I just couldn't feel bad for her.

The book got more interesting when Dawn was taken hostage, she fought to escape, there was action involving her trainees and Sebastian, etc. Good vs. Evil. I'm sure you all know who won, right?

Overall, I felt like there wasn't enough substance to sympathize with the characters. Not enough drama perhaps? I did, however, liked Brooke's obsession with her appearance and the implication of a pink cottage towards the end of the book.

After reading this book, I was slightly disappointed that the story didn't live up to the beautiful cover. I really wanted to love it. Here's to hoping the second book has more action and conflict :)

Check out this cute scene and my favorite quote from Dawn.
Seth and Hunter joined us. They held in their arms an array of my prized weapons.

"I don't think I've ever met a girl with a bazooka for a pet." Hunter looked both amazed and slightly frightened.

"That's Kitty," I said, pointing to the large weapon. "I got her for my tenth birthday."
Dawn: I was wearing six-inch heels, after all. Anything was possible.
