BBT Review: Shades of Blood by L.M. Pruitt

Posted on 01:30 by Unknown

Shades of Blood
By L.M. Pruitt
Book 3 Jude Magdalyn Series
Buy Link: Amazon (Kindle)

Reviews: Book 1 | Book 2

Blurb:

If it's not one thing, it's another.
Felipe, one of New Orleans's most infamous--and crazy--vampires is back in town. And to say he's unhappy is an understatement.

Duprees and Williams have to track down Felipe, fast, before he claims any more victims. If that means making a deal with the Devil--otherwise known as St. Germaine--and using an untrained dhampir, so be it.

If that wasn't enough, I've also got rebellious teenagers, feuding couples, and a suddenly full social calendar.

The more things change....
Review
I enjoyed this book, but not as much as the second one. This book seemed to have more serious than humor this time around. I suppose it would be since they were dealing with yet another psycho and Jude was getting really big in her pregnancy.

Dislikes:
  • Than vs. Then - still a problem for me
  • General editing - it just didn't cut it for me in this book. There were many mistakes that stood out for me.
Likes:
  • Jude finding names for her baby(s)
  • Theo and Williams getting along for once
  • Comte St. Germaine was back! I just love him. He was so old and found humor in the strangest times.
  • Elizabeth and Rian - they had seriously blown up in this book. Crazy things happened for them.
  • Lies and Samuel - wow, they were barely in this book, but congrats!
  • Celia - she was really strange in this book. I just didn't get her anymore. Not sure what was going through her mind, and she wouldn't tell anyone about it.
  • Duprees was the same, but he didn't appear as often in this book nor did he provide comedic relief.

Overall, I feel like this book just missed the mark for me. The characters weren't as exposed to me as it was in book 2. That book is still my favorite out of the three. In this book, most of the focus were on Jude and her feelings about her pregnancy or the goings on around her.

Excerpt:
I grunted at the sudden kick on my left, wincing at the answering one on my right. Theo's hand pressed harder into my stomach, his nails starting to dig into my skin. "What?"

"I think they're fighting." I hissed out a breath when another round of kicks happened. "Christ knows what they're fighting about. As big as I am, there should be more than enough room in there for the both of them.

Theo thumped the center of my belly. When I opened my mouth to ask what the hell he was doing, he shook his head at me. "Both of you, cut it out. You've got a few more months in there together. You're just going to have to learn to get along." In reply, there were two more smaller kicks. Theo thumped again. At the rate this morning was going, the doctor was going to spend more time asking where I was getting bruises then(sic) looking at the bumps. "I mean it, both of you. What goes for one of you goes for the other. Neither one of you is getting special treatment."
